This area featured heavily in the preparation of spies and saboteurs for the Second World War, with a special training centre being set up at Inverailort Castle to house the Special Operations Executive personnel - one of whom was the actor David Niven. The little white Lochailort Church that sits on the hillside was featured in the 1980's feature film Local Hero.
